WWII in the Pacific Marines Capture Japanese on Namur.jpg
After heavy bombardment, Marines landed on small islets protecting the entrance to Kwajalein lagoon where they set up artillery and began pounding the defenders of Roi and Mamur. Landing on Roi the second day, they drove the Japanese back across a connecting concrete causeway to Namur where they were either annihilated or captured. This photo shows one of two Japanese soldiers who failed to kill themselves with explosives in a concrete blockhouse.
